Did a quick search and it seems that this hasn't been brought up.

This issue is a super rare user case, however it just happened to me.

"Trainer will crash immediately on load if the system does not have a sound source enabled"

Both my dedicated sound card and my on board sound were broken and not enabled in the system. Launching any Cheathappens trainer would crash out instantly without a error window (Win8 compatible or not). This did not occur for different trainers on the net. However, when I plugged in a USB headset, the trainers all authenticated and behaved as usual.

Definitely a rare user case. If it is not fixable, maybe a FAQ post would help for some users.
