Totalbiscuit posted a 47 minute review of the game so you can check it out if you are still on the fence. Hey lets complain about the gun...OH CRAP CROC HAS MY LEG!
I can say definitively that this game completely destroys FarCry and FarCry 2. It has to be one of the best FPS's I've played in a long time. There are multiplayer modes (co-op and multi), but I have yet to experience them.
Graphically amazing, silky smooth on an AMD 955 BE, 8gb RAM, Sapphire Vapor-X 5870 1Gb using HBOA at 1680x1050 in Borderless all other graphic settings default.
Gameplay is smooth and simple while offering more complex moves as play progresses. AI is fairly intelligent even on Easy (my preferred mode as I am disabled). Typically you'll see an AI charge you, not in FC3. They will try and come at you many different directions. Enemies themselves are accurate, maybe to accurate, but adds to the challenge.
Character customization is quite in depth through many different weapons both purchased and received through challenges. The customization comes from numerous paint schemes for your weapons. Many weapons come with accessories, but none of them are over the top. There is crafting, albeit light, but certainly fits within the game. Expect a more realistic approach to crafting and weapon accessories.
The questing is straight forward and reasonable within a fully open world. Go wherever you want whenever you want. Although life expectancy will vary.
Overall, a fabulous game and well worth Steams $49.95.
Actually, I do not agree with You, OmniTree. It's too much like Far Cry 2, which was crap and not enough like Far Cry 1, which was GOOD. Ok, here you don't have to drive the whole map all over again and shoot the same guys in outposts again and again, but you have to be hunter-gatherer in order to make your life in game bearable. WHY can't you just buy better rucksack or weapon holster?
The hunter-gatherer aspect of FC3 is part of what makes the game better to me. All of the end grade crafted items require a rare skin. That adds to the value of the game. I find that significantly more enjoyable then farming mobs for hours on end trying to earn enough money to buy a larger rucksack or whatever.
Another positive over FC1 - No stupid mutants or completely over the top critters, just me and an island full of human baddies.
Co-Op is a whole new aspect of the game with a level system that is used to unlock weapons and their respective mods as well as skills.
once you have cleared an outpost/checkpoint (provided its not a a future mission) it stays cleared for the rest of the game. so if you clear all the check points from the game, then you end up with no enemies left to fight outside of a couple mini games and a certain side quests.
