Hi,

i cant seem to start XCOM. when i check the integrity of the cache game files it always says missing 1 file. and when it downloads the missing file the game still wont start because the file aint there. Does anyone know how to fix this? and saying that restarting steam will ficx it is not true.

Are you running any AV programs? Going out on a limb here, but maybe your AV is auto-deleting one file.

You could always uninstall and do a fresh install, see if that works.

I figured it out. You need to set compatibility mode to windows 7 and administrator in the starting options for the steam.exe

No if he can set Windows 7 compatibility level then he's using Windows 8, likely the MSDN RTM version which has been available since September or so.
(I've seen others report the same issue, hopefully when W8 gets fully released on the 26th this month they'll be forced to patch the game and resolve the problem correctly.)
