System Shock 2 one of the best FPS RPGs out ever, was a shame it wouldn't work at all after XP SP2.

It started a lot of redesign of the engine to get it to work, but none came close, I shall try this out later... would be good to get on it again.

yea...it is a shame. ever so often i start to think about it and want to play. but makes me sad to think those days r long gone. if only i had an older machine to play it on.

i'm curious if it will run on Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit

It does play on windows 7 64 bits, i have that myself and tested the game, it runs flawless, no crashes, even and it looks great in 1920x1080 res.

that does sound reassuring...but if it ran on Vista 64-bit...then wud make me feel a whole lot better.

not sure if it acts the same as real vista, but i have put the exe file in compatibility mode for windows vista service pack 2 within my windows 7 ultimate 64 bits, and game runs normally

does anyone remember Shodan's famous quote?

" Look at you, hacker: a pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors. How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine? " cool huh!

As long as you meet the requirements

game needs to be in 2.3 patch, which is latest official patch

    which is here:

    ss2.plasticcloud.com/

next you need the unofficial 2.4 patch

    which is here:

    www64.zippyshare.com/v/89847252/file.html

some info from the readme included in 2.4 patch

    Installation
    ------------
You must have a valid install of SS2 v2.3. You may need to update to v2.3 first.

Extract the contents of the "new_dark.zip" and "contrib.zip" archives into your SS2 directory, and
    you are done.

v2.4 should be able to load savegames made with v2.3, but this is best avoided. Savegames made
with v2.4 are however NOT compatible with v2.3.

If OpenAL is available on your system, it can be enabled in the Audio options menu through the option
"Hardware Acceleration", which will toggle between "ON", "OFF" and "OpenAL". If you don't have OpenAL
but you want to use it, you will have to install the OpenAL libraries first (link provided below).

IMPORTANT: The "Visual Studio 2008 SP1 C++" and "DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)" runtime
DLLs are required to run (the DirectX ones are only required when running with DX9,
which is default). While most systems probably already have them installed, by default
or through other applications and games, they can be missing on some. Below are the
    official download links.

    Visual Studio 2008 SP1 C++ runtimes:
    www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en

    DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010):
    www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8109

    OpenAL Installer:
    connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/oalinst.zip

MFW amateur trainer makers will scratch their heads at code injection for this title, on quick examination it looks like it still uses multiple pointer levels, back then it confused the crap out of a lot of people, plus you had to be very good at using Softice to figure them all out, we didn't have things like CoSMOS etc back then :P

But I managed to get infinite health quickly, does require a simple CMP EDX,15 to check if player or not
Oh and Don't forget some tuts on ASM and defeating DMA
