@glyth: No. You get purple weapons, and purple is the color named "epic" (It's not official; people call it "epic" because that's the name for purple weapons in WoW). Orange weapons are "Legendary".
Anyways: You'll need to make sure it's actually possible for normal "trash" mobs to drop anything better than epic weapons in the first place. Increasing your find chance isn't going to help much if better things aren't even in the mob's loot table. My guess is that you'll either need to wait on an update to willowtree (I think that's the save editor?) or farm the top-end boss for pearlescents etc. (should be easy enough with the trainer).

have you thout bout the acheivement for 10 orange weapons aslo? that gives you reason to want a method of farming oranges other then 8 hours on a slot machine
all I can say about my experience with drops is that it seems like I get about 20 non-white pistols for every non-white not pistol weapons. My siren is fully loaded up on pistols because the few rifles and subs I get usually vendor trash.
I second modifying the hunter relic beyond 5 percent. I found the modifying address (where the five percent goes) but couldn't find anything beyond that. Tried adding a ridiculous amount just in case it was multiplicative instead of additive, but couldn't really test it out.
I've been farming Boll for the Fastball Tediore legendary grenade mod (love the Major League gag). Killing him for approx. 5 hours, no drop. This is on playthrough 2.5 so he's scaled to 50.
Found this thread while looking for possible loot modifiers (such as Vault Hunter's relic aforementioned). Really wish something like this would come around. These loot tables as is are zzzzz... that is until another WillowTree comes around.
