    Ok, so here's the deal:

I work in a call centre, which means spending hours talking. Unfortunately, the first week there usually means being struck with a sore throat. People who work in call centres tend to call this "Newbie Illness" or something to that effect. I'm unfortunate enough to have caught the bug, and after being forced to work in spite of my sore throat it's escalated to the point that I can barely make a sound when speaking. Suffice to say, I won't be able to do my job properly, and I'm willing to bet they'll make me work tonight anyway.

After tonight I have two days off, and I'm hoping to use them to recuperate and heal my throat. Does anyone know of any way I can speed the process up a little? I've already been drinking warm milk with honey to soothe it a little, but that hasn't been helping enough.

I too use milk with honey but I also tend to use Strepsils. I usually have a sore throat after a party where we get drunk and try to sing along. 2-3 days and the voice is back.

I recommend using strepsils, tea with honey and citrosan. Citrosan is something like warm water with lemon extract powder. I think it helps very good and it does not taste bad at all.

warm water with a dash of salt...gargle at the very least twice a day(after meals preferably). shud take two...maybe three days to clear it up. but to be honest... nothing makes ur throat heal faster than...speaking as lil' as possible.

Anyways to Nic, a doctor would be better and lots of rest.

But for a small remedy, hot lemon tea or lemsip will work

As a former call center supervisor I know exactly what you're talking about. I suggest hot tea with honey (of course the milk probably works fine too). Keep a kettle handy and sip small amounts all day, making sure to keep it quite warm. As far as work, if they make you come in, your best bet for the short term may be lozenges or some good numbing throat spray. Since your throat is sore to the point of affecting your speech, a visit to a doctor whenever possible couldn't hurt.

Good luck! I hope you feel better soon.

Okay... so this will out me as a complete geek!

At any rate, in high school I used to compete in singing competitions. Sometimes my voice would wear out preparing for one of these. It was always helpful for me to gargle lemon juice. I also gargled salt water as well. These remedies always seemed to alleviate the irritation in my throat in a couple of days. Of course, I am also going to have to agree with saurabhfzd and recommend "speaking as lil' as possible."

P.S. I am not a doctor, but I play one on CH!
That is the smartest thing I have ever heard anyone say about anything.
