As per title, start to use Chrome, Firefox etc except for IE9.

There is a nasty little virus that when getting by defences, which it can with ease which suggests an exploit (could be Microsoft Security Essentials), starts to play an ad or some audio file which sounds like its from a website then you realise I have no browser pages shown.

It will continue to play the audio either of a Snickers Bar ad or some scientific birth thing. But it is nasty.

If you manually remove it, it doesn't matter as it has infected key system files, so if you remove it forces a 1 minute shutdown even in safe mode.. basically making it impossible to fix manually... even can't use SFC from a windows disc because it flags the installation as waiting on a scan so it won't start.

So yes use another browser for now, but im guessing there will be those who think they know more and will use IE9 anyways, but be warned it can happen to you, I have had to fix 12 PC's the last 3 days because of it.

    The files usual haunts

C:\User\*USERNAME*\appdata\xxxx.exe (its always 4 characters and can be anything)

    C:\ProgramData\*Some 20+ characters of nothing*\*same as folder name*.exe

Someone at my work today had some nasty virus on it though I couldn't tell if it was the one you're describing. MalwareBytes did pick up 2 things.

Speaking of other browsers, looks like Firefox is looking to redesign the options menu.

Who would use IE9 anyway, it's pretty much the worst browser you can get.

Unfortunately people that use PCs at work are usually pushed into using only one type of browser, and that is usually IE9. Because their Techy guys are idiots and can't work with more than 1 browser :P

With that being the case, i whole-heartedly agree with Pwiz.
As much as i like technology, if my job included the use of a PC or even an office i would love to get a virus that could render my working equipment unusable.
