So Obamacare, or Universial Healthcare is now controlled by the Government and Constitutional in the USA. What are your thoughts?

Its hard to explain what it is simply because its so complicated so if you don't know anything about just look it up I'm sure there are a lot of articles about it.

I'm not a fan of big government, but I will give it the benefit of the doubt and see what happens before I ultimately agree or disagree. And just because other countries have universal healthcare does not mean it will or will not work for America.

It doesn't really matter what anyone thinks about anything to do with democracy in America because the government are nothing but puppets.

Im for the idea though. I too have had compensation for a back injury.

Admittedly I do not know the details of this thousand page bill, but to me healthcare should be something available to everyone. (the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of etc.)

So I'm okay with the idea of paying taxes so that I can see a doctor as much as I am okay with paying taxes so that I can use a highway to get to work.

I agree with most of the ideas presented here in this thread. The thing that I do NOT agree with is the so called individual mandate. What that basically says is that an individual MUST have healthcare coverage...whether they choose to or not. I know it seems like I'm splitting hairs over the right to healthcare coverage and mandatory healthcare coverage, but the principle of freedom of choice and the values that the constitution of America is based upon are being suppressed/ignored by this administration, not just over this healthcare bill. It's one thing to make healthcare available to all, it's a completely different animal when the government says everyone MUST have healthcare. I know plenty of people who hate insurance companies so much that they would rather pay doctors in cash/check instead of having insurance (yes, it's more common then you think). Now those people don't have a choice...they either buy an insurance policy or they are severely penalized. Governments role is to protect its citizens, not control them like pawns. Other then that, the bill will probably raise insurance premiums and healthcare costs across the board, which will be passed to the American citizens by doctors, employers, and insurance companies...not the brightest idea in the middle of an economic recession, but still not a deal-breaker. Like I said, it's the individual mandate I take issue with.

Obamacare is actually a far cry from Universal Healthcare. In fact, Universal Healthcare is more what was sought, but The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) falls far short. A Universal Healthcare system would mean that our existing taxes (or additional ones if needed) would be used to fund healthcare for everyone in the country. The ACA utilizes an individual mandate to come close to this level, but it places a heavy burden on those who cannot afford health insurance. Certainly there will be subsidies set up for those who are in need, but it will still be a heavy burden for many that will not qualify for the subsidies. I am afraid that the compromises that were made to bring this act to fruition were ultimately just a bunch of "gimmies" to the insurance companies. If we would have gone with a single payer system (as the President favored) it would have eliminated most of the insurance companies as they exist today. Single payer would essentially make the government the insurance company, and our taxes the premiums. Insurance companies would still exist, but only to provide for elective procedures. Although, I am in large favor of healthcare reform, I do believe that the existing law falls far short of where we need to be. That being said, I am more in favor of improving the law than I am of scrapping it. No one should go bankrupt because of a freak instance in their health.

That is the smartest thing I have ever heard anyone say about anything.

Very well said, thanks for clearing that up. I agree with you.

Yes, there are a lot of problems with a health care system in America (talking about pre-Obamacare) and yes, a lot of people were unable to survive due to just being unable to afford the simple things.

So yes, a reform was much needed, although I think Obama went to far with the individual mandates and full out government control of the system.
