Great mod, lots of fun.. expect to die.. alot. Also expect to wait around for alot of time in the lobby of servers, and expect to wait around alot for your client to sync with the hive. Doesn't matter what server you connect to your character and gear will be available thanks to the hive, which is good since servers fill fast.
The game itself is unreal, you really have to try it. You have to watch what noise you make, how visible you are, you have to make sure you eat, drink, stay warm; you forget about one of these things and you're either killed by a zombie or killed by the environment.
Unlike the base ARMA game you don't have a map to work with, like all good survival scenarios you have to find a map and they are scarce. So I'd get to know the game area, this is one of the best maps out to date: Link
Trust no one you meet, DayZ has turned from survival simulation, to DayZ Deathmatch for alot of people.
And you didn't get shot and have your gear stolen for your trouble? Shocking
Every person I've met in game has tried to kill me, well except one but he wanted to party up and then shot wildly in the air and ran away and let me deal with the horde of investigating zombies. I lost a scoped rifle over that fiasco..
