The reason firehouses have circular stairways is from the days when the fire engines were pulled by horses. The horses were stabled on the ground floor and soon figured out how to walk up straight staircases, but they could not walk up circular stairways.

Eating spiders in your sleep is an urban legend. On top of being improbable, the sensations against your tongue will trigger an unconscious defense mechanism that will cause you to wake up.
so says you but not all spiders are tarantulas in size some spiders especially juveniles can be only the size of a grain of sand or even a few millimetres which even in a state of conscious would be close to impossible to detect and could be easily inhaled in your sleep
The tongue is the most sensitive organ in your body (more than your fingertips and lips) that will detect small insects. Additionally, you need to actively swallow something (requires complex muscle movement) to eat something (otherwise the spider goes into your lungs presenting a much more complex and serious problem).

Neo is right, when you sleep your tongue becomes lucid like the rest of your body and becomes hyper-sensitive, so anything crawling on your tongue will wake you up very quickly, as does anything near your nose or ears.
Besides spiders hate warm-moist areas they like dry-arid type of places to hide.

Most movement will scare spiders away, even simply breathing. So if you move around a lot in your sleep, you'll never have to worry about a spider getting close enough to you to actually be on you, much less for it to crawl in your mouth anyway.
Even if you don't move around much, it'll be a rare occurrence for one to crawl on to you.

i think you will find alot of inappropriate photos of people sleeping with things being put in their mouth with out their knowledge and being drawed on smeared with god knows what or being blown shottys up their nose its more your conscious belief that you would wake up if it happened then fact or how would blood sucking insects ie bedbugs mosquito get on and from personal experiences in a rural setting we pick field mushrooms in our paddocks which can be eaten fresh without feeling anything but when cooked hundreds of larvae and small spiders will come out of the gills of the mushroom
the fact of cows being able to walk up stairs but not down is false because this is how we load cows onto the top level of trucks to move them to other grazing blocks and they have to walk down the same steps to get out
