So title is self explanatory, What's your favorite movie that was based off of a video game. Mine is the first Mortal Kombat movie directed by Paul Anderson with Robin Shou as Liu Kang.

Most people think "military intelligence" is the best example of a contradiction in terms. Personally, I think "best movie based on a video game" beats it. 9 times out of 10 a movie based on a game is truly, goddamn awful.

However, having said that, I do find a certain guilty pleasure in really cheesy movies based of video games, but only when they know that they're cheesy and not trying to be completely serious. The Mortal Kombat movies are a good example, since the fights are over the top and the acting is particularly cheesy.

Unless it's made by Uwe Boll... then it just deserves to burn.

Most people hated it, but I thought Super Mario Bros was a great movie. Awful, but great in its awfulness.

FF 7 Advent Children is good.

And yes Sky i never expect much out of movies that say their 'based on the best selling video game'. Maybe I should have gone with best video game based on a movie.

Nah, the topic title is fine. I was just being a smartass.

As for the FF movies, I don't generally count Japanese video game based movies, because they actually tend to be good, and shouldn't be associated with our western dung heap of video game movies. Plus the FF movies were made by the people who made the games. That tends to help.

Actually, I think I'm gonna go watch Super Mario Bros. now . Then Spirits Within. It's been a while since I've seen either.

Kinda like the reason i watch japanese movies and tv shows with subtitles and not english dubbed since our American voice actors suck.

Same here. I only watch a few series which have been English dubbed and actually listen to the dubbed track, and most of those are only because I'm too tired to read subs.
