Think he is thinking about the different types of weapons, as in a sniper rifle assault rifle and smg and such, rather then just the 1 type of weapon variation.
I know I read about how to do it somewhere, I just cant remember where... I also have seen sections regarding henchmen weapons... Perhaps if you do a search for Henchmen you will find the weapons they are allowed, and add from and to each other using Coalesced editor.
In any case, google is your best friend as well as Bioware forums.

Hy bro , when you start any mission you can change the gear for all squad members you did chose for the mission check left bottom corner of screen (you can see two arrows + character name )all of them got max 2 weapon , also when you change the armor they wearing there is different bonuses , try this - save the game before mission , take your time and check every button on the screen while you accept a mission the progress should be like this SQUAD MEMBER SELECTION - GEAR SELECTION - POWER SELECTION
