OS uprades used to be about utilising new technology which couldn't be incorporated into existing Operating Systems. Now it's just to introduce more gimmicks and one or two new technologies.
Not to mention getting to charge people another £300+, and you know there'll always be an insane amount of people who will buy a new OS even if they don't need it, just to have it or they see a bigger number on the front so they automatically think it's better.

I could not agree more.
Same here.
XP wasn't great either, until it received a few hundred updates and service packs... I can still remember the amount of errors and incompatibilities before Service Pack 1. *Shudder*
The only good things about W7 for me: 1. It lasts much longer until it needs to be re-installed and is more stable. 2. Standard layout is prettier than XP. 3. Most devices/drivers work from the get-go.
That's it, really.

The only reason I have Windows 7 and not XP/Vista (I forget which I has before 7) was because my University had a partnership programme with Microsoft where we could get a large range of software for free. The only problem being is, because it's a student license, if I ever need another copy/key I'll have to buy a new copy, since I'm not a student any more.
Won't be upgrading to 8 for any reason, even if it were free.

I wont be upgrading OS until I can't avoid it, I'm just getting used to Windows 7 now.
I don't have a preference on XP or 7
I run Windows XP Pro on my laptop and its perfect for it I run Windows 7 on my desktop and its perfect for it
Both have their advantages and disadvantages
I know more about XP and can solve most problems with it quickly and then 7 doesn't seem to have that many problems to solve but it takes me longer to fix them, so it's a balance.
I have Windows 7 Pro, which runs all the games I play (not many on PC). I will most likely be upgrading to Windows 8 after the official release because of school. We train on all the latest technology we can get. And I seem to remember last semester my Networking Prof saying we were going to be making the upgrade when it was released.
Right now, I am not very enthusiastic about Windows 8, mostly because of Metro. I don't have a tablet laptop, nor do i particularly want one.
I have Windows XP running on a desktop, but I will be formatting it with Server 2003 (for a home server) and I actually prefer using my Windows 7 laptop over the desktop.
