Careful in which context the message can be understood. The British did conquer half of the world, influencing many cultures and even destroying a few.

Humanity should be proud of British musicians. I am.
I'm proud to be British regardless of our history. Besides, we hardly have the most sordid history in the world. In fact, we've given a whole lot back to the world since our Colonial days.
