Indeed. The Reapers are evil santas: 'Free tech for everyone!' (Most notably the Citadel, as you know)
The Protheans were converted to the collectors, humans into husks, etc. It seems that they want to wipe out all galactic civilization again but they always take samples.
Why not just wipe it all out and go back from whence they came?
I think we should all thank Drakonis on our bare knees for this thread... I don't know how, but somehow most of the spoilers more or less stayed to this topic.

Unfortunately, while all of the spoilers have been kept to this topic, we've all been too curious to ignore it.
So really, we should kneel and worship him, then flay him alive.
In terms of the Relays blowing up, the explosion caused in Arrival was because the relay was active. I kind of get the feeling the way to defeat the reapers will involve some way to shut them down, which means they can shut down the Relays before destroying them, thus no system-destroying explosion.

In a twisted sort of way the reapers are meant to save organic life by making sure they never develop the means to develop an AI that would one day wipe out all organics. Like the Quarians made the geth who eventually turned on them. The reapers are meant to save us from ourselves. Of course they have to destroy all advanced organics every 50k years to do that

Thats kind of what I was wondering about as well, what the point of the constant purges was.
Just speculation on my part, but, it might be part of some grand experiment, that has been running for a very very long time. What the point of it is, maybe we will find out.
Again, nothing for certain until ME3 comes out in a couple of days, [Insert evil laugh here]. And they may not answer many or any of the questions about Reapers at all in the game, leaving it open to more games, books, etc...

Yeah, who cares about batarian systems.. lol
I believe they are the first ones to get wiped out. That's also why you see the Batarian husks so early in the game.

Yes, just check the link I posted. And check Cerberus Daily Mail, there are some stories about it.
