I've noticed in chapter one of the game that after you find that stockpile of weapons in the town hall on the first floor that sometimes it will take a while of the third soldier following you to catch up to you so you can have him open the door that leads to the staircase. When I first encountered this I would just restart the chapter. But them I realised that if you just wait he will catch up to you and open the door. At first I thought that the slowness of the third soldier was being caused by the trainer but after some experimenting I realised it's just the way the game is.

I found out how to deal with the problem I mentioned in my first post. If he gets stuck in the doorway then I just walk behind him and then walk through the doorway and by doing that I wind up pushing him through the doorway.

Well unintentionally solved the problem I reinstalled the game for unrelated reasons and now the problem I described earlier does not happen anymore.
