Well if you don't know Iorveth's outcome now's a good chance to find out for yourself won't you agree

It kinda takes the fun away from it to know what's going to happen. Pick one and run with it. Choices are what this game is built on. It has 16 different endings... if you don't like a choice you made, remember it and choose a different path next time.

Is there a way to do a permanent save?

Permanent save? I don't quite know what you mean by that, but every time you press save game it saves in a separate file, if that's what you mean.
So if you want to save before a choice, just save your game and note the date/time you saved it and what quest is active in your journal, so you can easier identify the save later.

I did two full playthroughs one with Roche and one with Iorveth. Personally, I preferred the general storyline of Iorveth, but both were interesting enough and had their fair share of twists and turns. It could be I just like navigating the dwarven city compared to the makeshift camp, but meh.
Neither one disappoints, but you really only get to understand the dragon's true origins via Iorveth's play through AND you only get to learn the fate of the other two witcher assassins through Roche's play through.
