Normally I would be bummed by this, but there are so many great games coming out this fall that I would be in a conundrum to figure out which one to play.
Gears of War 3, Skyrim, Forza 4, and a few others.
I really hope this delay will give them enough time to make the third and 'hopefully' final release, a grand finale.
I say hopefully because EA is far to infamous for milking a series even after it should have died, and they already said this was a trilogy.

Yeah, but if I remember correctly Bioware never really said they would end with the Mass Effect universe after the third installment. Shepherd's story may end, but I doubt that this is the end for the Mass Effect universe.

One big major hint I will tell you though, Kaiden or Ashley becomes a squad member again, as does Liara.
Unfortunately for the Tali fans, she will not be a squad member this time around, but perhaps you finally see her face? Perhaps :P
As for one reason why it has been held back, two of the voice actors cannot be present during the time they are holding the recording sessions. From what I am told they are in other projects at the same time and Bioware need to wait till after they are done. They could use other actors, but they believe people want continuity rather than speed.
