I recently installed KOTOR on my tower and it has windows 7. It starts fine but very quickly there is a problem. I have yet been able to make it pass the bridge before the game crashes. I have installed it normally, i have installed it normally as admin, i have installed it normally in compatability mode set to XP, and i have installed it normally in compatability mode set to XP as admin. I am currently out of any ideas. But i did see on other posts people were having trouble with it just after they activated the cheats and it crashes for me both with and withouts cheats. Please help i love this game and want to play it again badly.

Try the "random crash" fix that worked for me:

In the installation directory, edit the 'swkotor.ini' file to include an entry under "[Graphics Options]" to read "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1".

I get a crash right after I rescue Bastila at the swoop race. The movie of her and Revan plays, then loading screen, then crash. I tried both suggestions but neither has worked for me. I bought it from D2D and it came with patch 1.3. I didn't have any problems using it on win7 until this.

I had a similar issue on my 64 bit win 7 system and how I fixed it had two parts because I got it through steam with the big SW package. Anyhow if you got it through steam make sure to turn off the steam community in game check box by right clicking the title in your library and selecting properties. The next step is to go to the folder for your game, in the case of steam wherever you download your steam games to ...steam/steamapps/common/swkotor, and run the swconfig application and when it comes up uncheck enable hardware mouse and check disable movies. It only turns off the startup movie and not the cutscenes so far. It worked like a charm for me so I hope it helps.

I also had issues with the game crashing during the cut scenes. If you put it into windowed mode than you should have no further issues. At least that is what worked for me.
