I'm having the same problem The game keeps crashing everytime I use the trianer but when I don't use the trainer the game works. I only got the game yesterday for some fun but without a working trainer I can't have my fun Anyway, the one thing that's been bugging me is how do I know what version is my steam game is? I know how to find out what version my retail games are, just not steam. Could anyone help me
Pwizard, I would wait until after the Portal 2 release in a few days to redo the trainers. I have a feeling that not long after the P2 release, they'll patch again to remove the P2 junk they put in the games to do this whole "Portal 2" promotion, then it'll be safe again.

Peter22CU: I don't know about exact version #s regarding x.x.xx etc but if you click the game on steam where the recent news comes up it will say what day the product update came out if you click read more. For example, CH says KF trainer update 4/14 but if you look at KF on steam and read more about the product update it says Apr 15. Thus the game was patched 1 day after the trainer was patched and in this situation broke it. This isn't as technical but its a easy approach to figure out if the game was patched since a trainer update.
