I would ask him if I can borrow the goat's body and put it to better use.
On a serious side, it his business - I would be completely indifferent. Its not like that the goat died miserably or a person died within the family.

And yes goat is not bad, depends on how you cook it. But as to a neighbours goat, I'd wonder about what could kill a goat, and maybe take a baseball bat to bed.
Who cares about dead goats when they have a cute little kitty?

I would first say to myself. "He had a goat?" Then I would console him and show him the magical world of dogs. or cats..w/e is his preference.
Nah, that won't work. He's had a preference for goats since he was a child when a goat saved his life in a freak accident involving a cow, ice cream and lots of tissues.
