Do you guys think that religion being made entertaining, such as televised churches or other examples of religion in media, destroys religion as an authentic object of culture?

Well it either evolves or fades away.

Elaborate?

Ahh good old religion, nothing like it, always the choice of the dictator/terrorist/nutjob to give excuse to their actions.

It has also been a tool of fear and wealth collecting.

I will admit there is genuine believers out there who trust in a religions harmony etc, but there is an even greater amount of people who abuse the religion/s to gain power and wealth.

Personally I don't believe in any one religion, that's just me, but I would never attack a religion only the people who misuse them.

i don't think it destroys the religion or adversely impacts it. as is the case with most things today..perception is everything...it was only a matter of time before religion found its way into the realm of television which will obviously be used to enhance people's perception of the said faith thereby seeking to make it more popular or counter negative publicity if any.

it also begs the question: is a faith/religion strong enough in its belief system to withstand changes it has to endure to keep pace with the changing times?

From my understanding less people are going to church/temples etc and instead stay home or whatever, so the best way to reach these people would be through television or the internet etc

Interesting, that's very similar to my opinion of religion.

Indeed there are people who are kind, generous and have been shaped that way by following the examples given in religious texts, but I think that if they were to find out how many people actually become religious for personal gain, they'd become disillusioned and they may lose their faith in whatever religion they follow. I mean how cruel, yet silly is the irony where those at the higher ranks of religion claim that to live ascetically is to be closer to their god, yet they do not live ascetically at all.

I see this TV religion you speak of as nothing more than a farce, a ruse to fool people into watching TV and spend money like on some pay-per-view channel.
If people want to call themselves true believers and consequently be true believers they have to get up and go to whatever church, mosque, synagogue, ashram or whatever religious building they want to praise whatever force they believe in.

Before I say any thing I want to make it clear I'm not a believer in any kind of religion. Though for Religious media such as on TV and what-not, isn't it a good thing for the religion as a whole the more exposure it receives. That's what I would of thought.
