Quick mate! turn youre steam auto update off. There definately IS an update and it definately DID break the trainer again. Wel just have to wait for the good folks at ch to fix it but until then if u block the update u can probably still play with the trainer.
Yeah I was getting annoyed until I noticed the "build 3272.0" in the corner of the main menu. If it's there, you'll need to wait for a new trainer. I don't think a reinstall will help, as Steam installs existing patches concurrently.
When I tried to open the game file on Steam today, it appeared to be downloading something (meaning it didn't launch the game immediately). Is steam "pushing" updates to the game that make the now current version on my machine incompatible with the trainer?
In "library" you'll have your list of games on the left side. Rightclick Shogun 2, click Properties, click the Updates tab, and change the dropdown item to "do not automatically update this game".
Problem with that is that Steam enjoys ignoring your wishes and will re-enable auto updates without your consent. It's a brilliant service but that's the one thing that annoys me. Time to go play DA2 for a day or so to give the CH lads chance to update

I'm having the same problem now last night game and trainer was working fine now every time I start a new game the game crashes. Game runs fine without trainer, somethin is wrong with the trainer program itself.
