I see everyone concerned about giving the AI the same advantage. Simple fix if you use the PFM. Under DB, search for
unit_to_exclusive_faction_permissions_tables
Open, select so it lists factions together and then divide it with the TRUE bracket. Whatever True units under that faction is listed you can freely edit all the stats under the unit_tables and unit_stats_land_tables. I haven't seen any exclusive naval units but I don't do naval battles (kind of pointless in this game). I am playing with the Hattori right now and I have super battlefield ninjas and Matchlock units. You don't need farther range when your reload is set so high that they almost sound like machine guns!!! Warning, setting these things too high will be fun for a bit, but not challenging at all!!!

Thanks for the info Gamejunkie. They will all pay on there treachery after the "Realm Divide".

Oh, I just realized it won't help the range. The only way to have exclusive long range is to actually give a range unit it's own weapon. Still, thanks for the info anyway.

GOT IT!!! I give the Oda exclusive matchlock unit it's own projectile so I can edit it's range anyway I want it. Kind of cool actually, the AI won't try to shoot through anything blocking their range like mountain terrains or walls. On a fully upgraded castle, they are bad defenders since they won't shoot if something is blocking their range. They need like an open field to shoot. But if your castle only has a one layer wall sorrounding it, they are very devastating.

My next project is the exclusive grenade throwers. Grenaders that can throw up to 300 range.

The safest bow unit to edit without the AI getting any advantage to it is the range of the hero units since I have not notice them using heroes. Thing is, only the legendary archer building can recruit them. I was thinking of having them available to master archer building but I was worried that the AI might recruit them. Without altering the weapon range, you can alter the unique archer of Chosokabe to have high accuracy, reload, more troops and more ammo using PFM 1.6.4 or 1.6.5.


Anyhow, I can upload you a file or I can make you a tutorial. The tutorial is the best way since once you get the basics of modding units, you can pretty much do anything.

Tutorial would be great, that way I wouldn't have to bother others and would do things myself. Thank you in advance

To Shavrovas,

Okay, here is the link of the patch file that I edited for the Chosokabe samurai archers. I put like a 350 range, 100 accuracy, ammo, and reload. I edited the file so the archers will shoot fire arrows since I thought it is cooler to watch. Just put some space between your spearmen and archer samurai or you might burn them too. Here is the link.

Just put the file on your data folder to overwrite the previous file. Backup your original data file just in case. To uninstall, just delete the file.

I was going to make you a tutorial, but I suck in giving instructions and I may end up confusing you. Let me know once you got the file so I can delete the link.

After editing the matchlock units, my game now plays like Empire meet Shogun 2 total war.

I only edited the "Chosokabe Samurai archers" only. Not the whole archers available for Chosokabe. Anyway, go to custom battle, and recruit the Chosokabe Samurai Archers. It should have a longer range and fire flaming arrows. The edited units will also affect your campaign.
