I have the "PC Download" digital version and it crashes with the trainer. It's not steam though. Guess you'll have to give it a try.

I'm currently using the 1.01 trainer with Steams Digital edition, seems to be working fine, though i have noticed a few bugs, things like your character turning invisible, a few seconds after you suddenly see the world from below and then the game crashes.
Not that much of a problem since the game has so many "quicksaves/checkpoints"
I don't know if this is because I'm using the 1.01 trainer or because the game itself is buggy, since i haven't tested with the 1.00 trainer.
