our inital trainer had a research option that basically unlocked any research icon you moused over IMMEDIATELY. however, it was brought to our attention that while it unlocked the icon, certain reasearch items did NOT act like they should. for instance, certain combat bonuses did not activate like they were supposed to.
we took a different approach instead, which is to set the the reaserch items to unlock in ONE turn, and the game ONLY ALLOWS YOU to UNLOCK one item at a time. this is deeper than just setting a 0 to a 1 in memory, etc. certain things get unlocked when the turn button is pushed.
so the trainer no longer works like it did initially. what it does now is set the research icon to a negative value (which appears as a LARGE value on the icon when you mouse over it). this is JUST AS DESCRIBED in the notes. at any rate, the item that is set for research will complete in ONE turn instead of several turns. some research items take 7 or more turns to complete. this will CONSIDERABLY speed up the time to research. it HAS to be done this way so that certain things UNLOCK like they should. in fact, this is how all the previous trainers worked in this game series.
