Lol. I'm an impartial person. I don't hold prejudice for most of the all times. I actually tried to give the mages a change.
But this game, or maybe my choices, forced me to see that mages who dwelt in blood magic, regardless of what purposes they held, would end up hurting other people.

I simply couldn't put up with that.

Some might argue that it's because of the templars' oppression that make the mages that way. Well, the mages always have a choice. And they, most of the time, choose the wrong choice of getting into blood magic to gain more power. And it drives them mad. And this in turn force the templars to be even more oppressive.

    A bloody cycle.

I dunno... I only played through two times so far, and both times I sided with the mages. Meredith was nuts ya know! Besides... my sister was a mage and the second time I played through I didn't take her to the deep roads to see if she would live. She does, and the templars take her... bummer! The question is, should someone be a prisoner for life for an accident of birth, even if they are not a blood mage/evil person/same race. We had a civil war in the US once pretty much over this same issue and there was a lot of blood shed over it. People in Libya today are answering this same question in about the same way. Does one person have the right to decide your fate because you are a bit different, not as rich, ruthless, or the same tribe/group/authority status? I don't think so! So I killed the Templars.
PS... Merril was a "blood mage" and she didn't hurt anyone who didn't need hurting! Evil is evil... decent is decent... People do whatever it takes to free themselves, including kill those who oppress them.

Let's see. Because Hawke's sister was a mage that I wanted to help them at first. But gradually, the more I helped them, the more I saw that most of the mages I knew misused their power. They might have noble purposes, but those purposes required more power to be accomplished. And as far as I was concerned, it meant blood magic. And it always, always led to death of some.

Templars are not supposed to be a military suppressing the mages, but a police force to make sure that they do not do anything harmful to the general population. I too do not agree to the way of the templars, especially Meredith's, but it is necessary that the templars be there.

And for Merill, well, I helped her murder her whole clan.

The road to hell is paved in good intentions...

if Merril was not a blood mage, she wouldn't have been convinced by that demon to restore the mirror, and thus force the keeper to imprison the demon within herself and die, thus you end up killing her clan.

She was weak, if you take her into the fade she betrays you so easily. Then again so do a few others... Orsino helps the mage that kills your mother, he is 'O' from the letter.

My first time i helped the mages because it seemed right, and bethany was in the circle, this play through she is a warden now, and i am going to side with the templars... plus i wanna be viscount.
An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Actually although its scripted to go that way, when you leave the cave the correct options will prevent the elves from attacking and they leave.
