Nice move Neo. Lock an active topic when you don't agree with the comments?

New software, legally acquired may be infected.

    and...

Considering EA's past, I wouldn't put it past them to use draconian measures to protect their profits even if it is dangerous to the people acquiring their software legally.

All I'm saying is don't discount any warning from any legitimate anti virus software.

Well you should know certain principles of viruses. Many of false positives are due to heuristics, or may we say byte-by-byte filescans. So what you can do here seek consultation of various anti-virus scanners (There are free online services for this), and see if the majority of the virus scanners are doing the same.

Each Anti-Virus is programmed in a different way and some even don't update their virus definitions so often. So its better to rely on a decent Anti-Virus that has positive reviews all over.

Legal softwares do not have virus like function that infringe your privacy by stealing passwords/data or doing any other forms of damage. They usually just check for your registration info on their servers and if you seem to get the license illegally - It would blacklist you. And for this very reason, some Anti-Virus detect it as a virus.

Also please inform yourself before making remarks on others and stop being so skeptical. Everything depends on the source where you get things from. There are many nasty people on the internet that infect legal software and then spread it all over. So just make sure you are getting it off a legitimate source.

I don't believe anyone is talking about a trainer. I saw deadspace was infected, in the original post. I have also come across this, avg has reported 2 files from the deadspace program to be infected, not any of the trainers. I don't even have any of the trainers from here. AVG reported deadspace as infected which is how I came here in the 1st place.

I am aware that an anti virus program may report a false positive. Still I will investigate before continuing. Please don't waste my time defending your trainers, I have no interest in them to begin with. If however, you have information pertaining to the false positive with a reference to a reputable source, for example, EA or AVG or any other you feel is reputable, please do tell me of these.

Besides, you telling me the trainers on this site are falsely reported as infected, since you obviously frequent these forums, is a bit like the wolf telling me he won't eat my sheep. I'm not likely to believe it.

Please do behave politely when you feel like discussing. You are in CheatHappens, and trainers are one of our tools of trade. So isn't it obvious that it would be taken in consideration when someone moans about a virus?

Getting to the point, isn't it obvious that spreading viruses isn't actually good for EA's business? Its illegal and unethical to begin with. Doing so will make them cyber criminals.

This game is protected by the latest version of SolidShield (Copy Protection if you recall). What this protection does is use the internet or the phone for activating the game. So of course there will be certain functions that will be marked suspicious by an Anti-Virus.

activation_x86.dll (Or the file similar to that name) is getting detected as a virus here, if I recall. This is because this is the main library of SolidShield. You may want to google this and further understand how copy protections work and how it conflicts with many of such abysmal Anti-Virus scanners like AVG.

I didn't say EA spreads viruses intentionally, I said legally acquired software can be infected.

I did say EA may resort to draconian measure to protect their profits without regard to customers.

If you know anything about EA's history, you can not refute this statement.

    and...

    finally some useful information.

By draconian measures, the maximum EA can do is make produce a DRM (Which is already has) that closes the game if the computer is not connected to the internet.

So all it can do is protect its games with some tricky protections (Like IP bans?) which in the end will prove to be troublesome for us end users. It cannot do anything further. Their are privacy infringement laws that restrict them to do so.

So I will refute to your statement. A legal software will not be legal if it has a virus. Sure it can be infected, but not by the original authors.

EA has a history of disregard for it's paying customers.

therefore, whenever any av program reports a possible infection from
ea software, I will most definately investigate.
