Crosshair IV boards from ASUS are very good, latest 890FX chipset.

Although your RAID 0 will be fine, bear in mind if any data is corrupt it will be essentially gone, this is more annoying if its a system file that windows uses then there is the possibility that you won't be able to boot into windows.

2TB is a bit overkill unless you plan on installing everything you own on it :P

get 4 1TB Sata 3's if possible, if not Sata 2's and do a Raid 0+1, quickness and secure at same time.
Oh and Don't forget some tuts on ASM and defeating DMA

alrite...RAID 0+1 it is. what do think about the processor and the gfx card from a gamer perspective?

the 5800 series is being faded out for the newer more popular 6900 series, i'm having this problem myself right now, i already have 1 5870 card but i'm having trouble finding a second, maybe you have a better selection where you live though.

and what's this talk about raid? i've never heard of that before.

and regarding your question about processors, the quad core series offers sligtly better speed, the fastest in that line that i know of is 3.5Ghz, also the quad cores are less expensive as everyone's hot to buy the new six core processors.

Processor and GFX is fine. You know me though im an Nvidia buff.

But here is another possible setup for HDD's.

    1 60GB(ish) SSD for Windows
2 1TB Sata 3's in Raid 0. That way if something is corrupt you can easily fix it

The 5870 equivalent from nvidia would be the gtx 460, as for the CPU i would wait for a bit and see just what the bulldozer CPU brings to the table. If your not familiar with the bulldozer, its AMDs upcoming octa-core processor for the AM3 and AM2+ platforms.

Also as to your HDD setup I agree with an SSD as the system drive but id go with a 128GB minimum, as modern OS will take almost 1\3 of your drive space on install+patches if you went with a 64 GB as suggested above. Also if your a steam user it works best on the Main drive rather than one of the storage drives. so make sure that you pick a drive that can accommodate both the OS and any steam games you might have. Also you can store game backups from steam on your storage drives as you uninstall them for space.
