I'm playing the steam version of ME2 and I need to know how to import an ME1 save. When I try importing a ME1 save from the games main menu after I start it it says I have to run some kind of utility before I can import the save. please keep in mind I am playing the steam version of the game. Any help would be appreicated. Thank you in advance.

Regardless of DD vs. retail copy, all ME1 saves should be in \ Bioware\ Mass Effect\ Save, under My Documents (XP) or something like C:\ Users\ Your Username\ (Vista/7).
You can either use the semi-automatic utility in the ME2 Config tool, in which case that's all you need to know or you can just copy the files yourself, in which case you'll also need to know that \ Bioware\ Mass Effect 2\ Save\ ME1 is the folder they should go in.

Thanks for the reply but since my original post I figured out how to do it on my own.
