This came to mind. When you gage your ears (I am not going to but this came to mind) does it re-open your wounds from the piercing or just stretch it?

Do you mean re-open your first piercing?
If so then no,like bongwater420 said it just stretches it.

I have had my ears pierced way back when then, had them stretched out to 1". I have had no problems whatsoever with them.

Unless you try and stretch it to far to fast, then you will open up scars and could potentially rip your ear.

You mean gauge right? Yeah it just stretches out your last piercing.
