    cool tips thnx

first i dont overclock so that shouldn't be it
i use asus smart doctor wich allows custom fan setting and i have a custom profile that make it go to 100% at 75

my power supply is aimed downwards and has opening for it down (build it myself so i know thats done alright) its not on a carpet its ontop of my desk and i do have cats but they arent allowed upstairs in my room altho i still carry some hair upstrairs but there is no way around that.

on the 4th point wich i didnt know could effect it that much it is as close as it can to a wall there is some room but not alot because of the wires so ill try and find something for that.

about the inside being dirty i dont know but dont waranty void if you open it up? cuz then if it doesnt ill go check that because it gets hot easily lately i noticed

top fan puts out the hot air and lower ones do cold air in so thats also good even added extra side fan 120mm to suck in colder air in that area

and are there better cooling fans out there for the 480GTX? because i saw there are some out there but they need to be specific and most of the time i dont see the 480 or 400 series mentioned there.

also must mention my room is very dusty and i have tried alot of things to change that like vacuuming every week cleaning curtains and dusting off everything i can reach but i live in a old house from 1950's wich has old crappy ceiling wich should have been replaced when we moved in but werent... so those things dont help ofcourse.

    hi guys,

i just wanted to update the(my) situation.
after waiting for 2 weeks for the new cooling fan from arctic

cooling and then longer even for the complete tool set i ordered with it i finally got it all and installed the new fan cooling

when i opened up the card (removed old cooling) it was as
ImportDizigns said there was a wall of dust that made airflow impossible which explains why it got hot even with older games...

now it doesn't go higher then 54C and the noise is so much lower!
so thanks for the advice in the matter.

Dont forget to turn on V-Sync in games also, otherwhise your card will always try to gain the highest possible amount of FPS, and when you turn on V-Sync you need to turn on Triple Buffering.

I use it in the global settings in NVidia control panel.

Your right to be concerned with 101c I just partially fried my last card not long ago getting it to 105c with fans at 100% too.

If you didn't harm your card... consider yourself EXTREMELY LUCKY that you caught it when you did...you were right on the borderline man!

My card after it overheated functioned semi normally, but it caused sooo many random blue, green and purple screen crashes. It became unpredictable deciding when it was going to crash. Sometimes it happened several time in 1 day sometimes it was 1 time in 2 weeks.

I just had to replace it literally last week with a gtx 580.

Thx for heads up about this game I am about to boot it up now and I will be extremely careful to monitor temps.

PS: I always recommend you use forced v-sync in your driver settings of your card that way even if the game doesn't have v sync built in it will be forced to comply. To further state how important that is... I always did that as far back as I could remember.. for whatever reason I was tinkering around not long ago and turned it off (i think to test a game out with different settings) and I neglected to turn it back on later. The 105c incident occurred shortly after in another game a week later. The one time I didn't follow my rule I got burnt literally.

ya i think i was lucky although not completely sure as some game are "jumpy" like cod, its not like really bad or noticable that much but i notice even if its so slight and DC universe is lagging as hell but alot of people have that and star trek online says driver isnt right or something to turn on certain graphic options (although i force them on now) but other games work fine so might be the damn windows 7... anyways the card is supposed to be able to handle the 105C temps but that is its max so not recommended i think lol but with the new fan system its always at 42-50C so well below that but still the game makes my card go 50 where others make it 45 so if you dont have custom cooling my advice is:

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR TEMP!

(always run with V-sync as i heard that SC2 didnt have that and fried tons of cards but i dodged there to then i guess but i always force it through control panel or through the driver its self with nvidiainspector)

Ya the best thing that happened for you is that you noticed it before it went to far. The day it happened to me it went so far that ingame I noticed green graphical artifacts appear randomly across the screen... just from years of experience I knew what i was seeing is overheating. By the time I alt tabbed to inspect the temp it was 105c.. its quite possible in that few second hang time during alt-tab it dropped a couple degrees lower.

Needless to say 550 dollar mistakes make me angry.

I blame it all on my forgetfulness to switch back on the forced vsync setting.

I was playing the game just now on my new card with max settings and it seemed to sit around 60-63C. This to me is a comfortable range for a extremely graphical game.

I am running my fan temperature gauge through my G19 keyboard now a days so I can constantly monitor my temp while I am in game. It helps reduce my need for alt tabbing anymore.

ya their latest patch (well 1.1 gold) fixed some heating issues and it help with a new card the path is clear for airflow.

i caught it though because i have 2 screens and one has several monitoring gadgets and software running so smartdoctor gave a warning although one time when i went to play company of heroes i

turned the other screen of as it was suggested on forums to decrease temp (suggested by the devs of the game, yay devs your always so smart...) and smartdoctor was running still with

overheat protection on so at one point BAM pc turn of cant turn it on im stressing as hell as im like okay thats it 500 euros just fried.

luckily i could turn it on after 1 min or so and it all seemed ok no weird colors or anything so since then i make sure even with new cooling to have it on second screen as i also forget the checking when i game if only 1 screen.

thats why i started this as this game just got released and also heated up allot and i knew there were good people here (200% better then devs) and here we are

    (or are we )

(PS my second screen is crappy 19" that isnt even HD or anything so if you have second one standing around and space use it tip #2 also sorry for lenthy posts all the time but just trying to be clear)
