These are pretty interesting. And graphic. I like them. Link Personally, I think they would have a large impact, and they should be passed. They certainly know how to lay on the guilt.
Some pretty serious stuff...but I don't think it would convey the message they want. I mean people already know cigs are addictive...so restating what someone already knows really won't do anything...:/
But what those do for me is make me want to go smoke one...
They won't discourage anyone from smoking. If anything, it may encourage it temporarily due to the novelty.
Anyway, if we're going Government Healthcare then the last think we want is for smokers to quit. It's cheaper to have them die early rather than pay for end-of-life expenses.
"Health care costs for smokers at a given age are as much as 40 percent higher than those for nonsmokers, but in a population in which no one smoked the costs would be 7 percent higher among men and 4 percent higher among women than the costs in the current mixed population of smokers and nonsmokers. If all smokers quit, health care costs would be lower at first, but after 15 years they would become higher than at present. In the long term, complete smoking cessation would produce a net increase in health care costs, but it could still be seen as economically favorable under reasonable assumptions of discount rate and evaluation period."

To sum up, here's Denis Leary.
"There's a guy- I don't know if you've heard about this guy, he's been on the news a lot lately. There's a guy- he's English, I don't think we should hold that against him, but apparently this is just his life's dream because he is going from country to country. He has a senate hearing in this country coming up in a couple of weeks. And this is what he wants to do. He wants to make the warnings on the packs bigger. Yeah! He wants the whole front of the pack to be the warning. Like the problem is we just haven't noticed yet. Right? Like he's going to get his way and all of the sudden smokers around the world are going to be going, "Yeah, Bill, I've got some cigarettes.. HOLY ****! These things are bad for you! ****, I thought they were good for you! I thought they had Vitamin C in them and stuff!" You ****ing dolt! Doesn't matter how big the warnings are. You could have cigarettes that were called the warnings. You could have cigarettes that come in a black pack, with a skull and a cross bone on the front, called tumors and smokers would be lined up around the block going, "I can't wait to get my hands on these ****ing things! I bet you get a tumor as soon as you light up!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'
The only disturbing image I see is the one with the somewhat rotten teeth. Still frequent trips to the dentist wouldn't let it get so bad. I wouldn't get to see those anyway as I'd rather smoke rolling tobacco.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trust is a fragile thing. Once trust is lost, it can be impossible to recover. Those we're closest to can betray us,and total strangers can come to our rescue. In the end, most people decide to trust only themselves. It really is the simplest way to keep from getting burned.
lol the pictures we have on the boxes here are far worse than anything in that link, and it doesn't seem to have made a difference. People I know who smoke just buy cases to put the cigarettes in so they don't have to look at the pictures.
