I'm using Core2 Duo E6850@3ghz with 6gb of ram .(%50 used while playing) in win7 64 bit. 30 seconds wait between turns makes the game really boring for me.

After the gong sound the game freezes for 15 seconds as it was decompressing bitmap files to videocard (at that time CPU usage is around %80 and %50 respectively) then the game resumes. Especially when completed research of new technologies, wait time increases another 15 seconds.

Is this happening to everybody or just me?

Also what is your CPU and your estimated wait times for this game if I may ask?

Yes that has happen to me has well. Then again I was on a single core procssor at the time. Have you try to save game and restarting your computer, then go back into the game?

    Windows 7 64 bit, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 Ghz, 6GB DDR2 800 ram, Radeon 5870 1GB. Running 1920x1080 w/ everything on/ set to high except for AA.

Current game I'm playing on the largest map size (huge). With 12 players and 24 city states. Currently on around turn 160, only around 16 city states left, all players still up and running. Turns vary.. usually takes 5-10 seconds. Rarely takes longer then 15 seconds. (Only time it was longer then 15 was when there were multiple wars going on at the same time, which took about 20 seconds for the turn to finish).

Friend of mine runs Windows 7 64 bit, i7 930 @ 2.8 Ghz, 4GB of DDR3 1600, and a Radeon 5870 1GB. Running with same graphics and game settings above, and he says his turns take around 5 seconds, longest he had to wait was around 7 seconds. Never goes over 10.

Also I was playing in huge map, 12 players at year AD 1300.

It reminds me of civ 4. When I first bought my ATI 5700, while opening leader diplomacy window between turns the game was freezing for about 3 seconds. I can't remember how I make it but later it disappeared. In any case I may upgrade my CPU to i7 930 as I understand.

Also this does not seem like a memory leak. Alt-tabbing (as in civ4) or saving restarting & loading does not cure it.

Sounds like to me is that your just bogging down your computer. Just a random question I always ask for people with games slowing up. How often do you clean up your computer? Has in Disk clean up, delete cookies, check error, run a defrag, delete temp files, etc......

Other question is how many programs are you running in the background? A lot people dont understand they are alot of programs that runs in the background. Few will show up in the bottom right hand side where the clock is.

If you clean this up usely your computer does run faster.

This problem is specific to only this game and not isolated to just my configuration as you can notice it while googling.

I'm a hardcore gamer and playing computer games since 1985. I really have solid experience of what can make a game run slower than usual as I corrected many bugs in games (and even intels faulty mbs once).

The point where the game freezes just looks like it transfers enormous data like decompressing files to video RAM, saturating the bus at the %45 cpu workload. At that point, game become unresponsive for 10 or more seconds.

It is most likely this game was made to run like this.

So I believe avoiding the game for core 2 duos is a must, because my turn takes 10 seconds to play but turn wait takes 30 seconds which really annoys me.

Well for long time I was on a single core 2.4GHz computer, only time I really had that problem was then. Between the procssor and ram (3gb) that didnt work if you know what I mean. Graphic card was a Radeon X1650 512mb

Have you try to turn down the settings on graphics see if that help? Yes it could be a bug has well in the game. Games always been rushed out with out getting checked see if the game works 100%

Last year or so most games are going to duo cores. Reason I build a Rig that I dont have to worry to much about games, and there asking for more power lol.

Keep in mind that all the other civs have to take their turns as well. not to mention workers and automated units take this time to do what they are supposed to do, so depending on how many you have the wait could be less or more.

In most cases, doing a Disk Cleanup and running a Defrag will help in most cases, the hard drive is being used durring turn changes afterall so in most cases it should help, in addition to closing any un-needed programs before you decide to play(Any game not just Civ).

Another thing to remember is turn off Unlim Movement if your using the trainer before or durring you end your turn or it could keep going for a while.

Once the patches start coming along it should all get better, pray it will anyway.
