It has come to our attention that some people have received either warnings or account bans for the use of a trainer (ours or any other) in SINGLE PLAYER modes of the game. While we cannot independently confirm this as our personal accounts have not been affected and we have used the trainer daily since the game was released, we do have some recommendations for using the trainer without risking your account.

First of all, simply activating the trainer and entering a MULTIPLAYER game should NOT be done. Even though no options have been activated, the trainer is still active, changes have been made to your executable, and this could possibly be detected by Blizzard. I'm sure that at least some of the people banned were because they accidentally left the trainer on or activated it when moving from a single player game to a multiplayer game within the same session, even if they didn't use any of the options.

Our recommendation is to disable/disconnect your internet connection prior to starting up the game. This will allow you to play in OFFLINE MODE and play both the campaign and single player AI skirmishes with the trainer. We cannot confirm that Blizzard is not still scanning offline games to be reported at a later date when you sign in, but it doesn't really seem logical for them to do so.

As far as the act of banning people for cheating in SINGLE PLAYER games, we believe this to not only be illegal but also a slap in the face to all of the consumers that purchased the game and expected to be able to play it as they see fit in a SINGLE PLAYER environment. There have been landmark legal cases that have clearly shown that the use of cheat programs and devices in SINGLE PLAYER are completely legal. I could easily see a class action suit being filed on behalf of those that were banned for simply cheating the single player game, especially seeing as how Blizzard included their own cheat codes for the game that do the exact same thing. Single player achievements have no bearing on multiplayer standings or ladders and have no effect on other players so that cannot be used as a viable defense.

We are certainly sympathetic for anyone who has lost their account due to using ours (or any other) trainer in SINGLE PLAYER mode, however its always been a possibility when using third party software and one must assume that risk, especially when playing a game like SC2 which wants you to constantly be online regardless of whether you are playing against the CPU or another real player.

We will continue to test our own accounts to see if we get banned and will certainly bring up the legal concerns with Blizzard if so. I'll update this thread with any additional info we receive.

One thing we find interesting is that when cheating in a game like World of Warcraft, which is 100% online multiplayer, Blizzard simply suspends your account for 72 hours. They clearly don't want to lose their monthly income for those players. When it comes to SC2, with no recurring monthly fee, they simply ban instantly seeing as how they already have your money and nothing to lose.

Again, these are terrible tactics for Blizzard to be using and I can see it coming back to bite them in the future.

Same here, although I don't think there is much we can do.

On a side note: I don't think anyone here even thinks about blaming CH for this entire thing, I have not been banned yet but that is because I was too lazy to download the updated trainers.

Anyway, good luck guys.

Greetz,

Thanks for the update PWiz, I'm sure it's put a fair few peoples minds to rest. Just to add to the statistics, I've never played a multiplayer match (I buy RTS games to play against AI mainly) and my account is still in good standing, and I've been using the updated trainers.

Edit:

I've been playing in Online Mode Single Player campaign, not bothering to disable my net. As above, account still fine.

Wait so what you guys are basically saying is that, LEGALLY, we are technically allowed to use a trainer because a trainer just does what a cheat does.

Not trying to start an argument, but say we were to take this to a more official broadcasting (fighting your ban, etc) can't they just say that "Well, while that may be true, the cheats we implemented were to allow for people to just enjoy it, and by entering a cheat, it removes the ability to gain an achievement. A third person program such as a trainer or a hack, while may give the effect of said cheats, they still allow a player to get achievements. This conflicts our EULA because (insert something Blizzard-like here)"

Aside from that, this deal with the bans and what not would be greatly appreciated if anyone can give their input on what's going on...

I think it's still shakey on the whole matter because the people who got banned just say they got banned while not giving any detail whatsoever on what the status of the trainer was at.

Knowing Blizzard, the bans are given instantaneously to about 2 hours... Though I have no idea about Starcraft 2. As somebody said earlier, Starcraft 2 is a one-payment-no-profit game and therefore, they have no reason to listen to unsatisfied customers.

There was few people did say they did not cheat / trainer who got ban. What it comes down to they can ban people for fun of it, even if it look kind of wrong for those who did not hack. So really power hungry companys, say hay look at all those people if we give around 5,000 thats just less then 1% test drive see how many people will buy it. They know over half of 5,000 people will rebuy it.

It is none profit yet they knew people will cheat in single player mode reason they put the single player in a server. They learn from StarCraft the first one came out. How many people would fall under that. So really its just a scam to make money.
