Not sure if any of this is common knowledge, just stuff I noticed while having fun...

As I say, I noticed a couple things odd while playing, but the one that was the most advantageous (for anyone that is either still playing, has just got it recently (like me) or is playing it again...) - is the fact that if you have the Russian(?) mortar guidance system, and you can stand near a "weapon cache" box or whatever, where there's a weapon lying on top of a silver box... and it's one of the other alt-weapons, like the rocket-launcher or C4 - then you can use the mortar guidance system, swap it out with whatever, swap it back, and it's instantly ready to go for another round.. instead of waiting for that very slow little bar to fill up again.

Obviously that only works standing next to such a weapon box, but there's still some good places that it's quite useful. Of course you also still have to wait the few seconds it takes each time to fire, but that's still *way* less time than the other thing.

The other thing was that initially I thought the "English" version of the bombing guidance system was broken cause I couldn't get it to work after the first time I used it - until I realized that you simply need to aim it at an enemy vehicle for it to work (doh!) - or... at an enemy emplacement. After I figured that out - then I realized you can even just drive around in a tank or enemy APC or whatever those are and if the enemy is reasonably close, you can just hop out of your vehicle, aim at it, and then use the manual guidance to hit whichever enemy, and it became a LOT more useful. (though still seems to work in Russian more often than it does in English for me! Certainly a few little buggy things in the game)

And of course you can aim it at emplacements - one place where that worked really well was at the entrance to the palace - after the bridge, you can go up the main path part way, and hide behind a tree. Then you aim it back towards the bridge where the emplacement is - just aim it anywhere on the emplacement, and when you get to guide it, just guide it backwards towards the bad guys in the area in front of the palace. You can hit most of them, except the few at the line closest to the palace where there's 3 more emplacements and the ammo box. But then you can move up to the wall and aim it at any of those emplacements to hit them.

The only thing is with the emplacements that don't have a big metal shield - you have to aim it at the vertical stand part to get it to engage.

Anyway, not sure if this'll be useful to anyone since it's so long after the game came out, but as I say - I only played it through recently, and wouldn't have minded knowing this stuff when I was starting out.

Anyone notice anything else useful? I sure wish sometimes that you could carry at least TWO regular guns instead of just the one - like an assault rifle *and* a shotgun... And IMHO it would have added significant value if they'd added a new game+ or some such thing that you could either play with any weapons, or infinite ammo, or both. I'm not sure why so many game companies don't add such things - there's so many games that could have had so much more added replay value for such little extra effort by the makers. :-/

    Cheers
