I have a router which is 6 years old. If I change the router will I make anything invalid? For example will I not be able to use techincal surport etc?
Each router has a setting. So all you have to do is change the setting of the new router so you will be able to use it, otherwise it will not function.
And what do you exactly mean by technical support? From the telecomm company or from the company that has manufactured the router?
