The 6th and final defense mechanism: The Anti-Virus. If, despite your best efforts, an infection comes to this wall, the AV will have to step in and block the offending threat. An Anti-Virus must also be updated regularly and usually at least once a day. Anti-Viruses are not meant to be a one stop solution to computer security! Most outbreaks of infections occur from "zero day infections". What is a zero-day infection? It is an infection that is created recently and released without warning. This allows for a very opportunistic environment for a few moments before AV companies can respond and create new databases for detection of these new bad guys. For this reason having an out of date AV is just as bad as not having one at all! Remember that if this defense mechanism fails, you will have an active infection in your system that will require tedious and sometimes impossible cleaning.I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials which is developed by Microsoft (as suggested by the name) and provides good compatible protection for what most are willing to pay (free). Hopefully this has helped you secure your computer a little more. If you follow these basic steps, you can find that you actually need less of those 3rd party security programs and recover all that wasted CPU and RAM resources on those to more important things like work and games.

The 5th defense system is a relatively unknown system that is built into every modern Windows starting with XP. It is known as Data Execution Prevention or DEP (also called NX-bit by others). DEP has two modes it operates on:-Hardware enforce DEP uses a special CPU bit called the NX-bit (No eXecute) that marks special memory as read only. This stops infections exploiting memory flaws dead in its tracks regardless of patches or not. Not all CPUs have this ability -Software enforced DEP monitors errors thrown by programs. Most programs can handle these errors without the user being alerted, but if an error does not "officially exists", Windows terminates the offending program immediately. Some infections are stopped this way. DEP is enabled for windows functions only by default, but it is more secure to enable it for all programs. 90% of those fake anti-virus webpages are stopped dead by DEP! Did you know those websites exploit your machine by using memory that isn't supposed to be used by common programs? Some users who use ancient software may find that their programs may trigger these alerts and find their programs unusable. DEP offers the ability to turn DEP off for specific programs. Despite that minor setback, a majority of users will not see any compatibility issues with DEP. There is a good possiblity that DEP can interfere with CHU trainers so if you use them regularly, you can ignore this defense mechanism.

Sadly, all of those qualities for a partner are just an extreme form of oversimplification. Even if it looks and feels that simple, it's still something that could blow up in your face in the messiest way possible.

Not giving up until the end, even in the 99 percent of despair, trying my best as long as that 1 percent of hope remained – whatever situation I was in, that was the only way in which I myself could become fearless."
