The thing with Scientists over here is that Religion is not really that interesting to them. They choose to ignore it and focus on more things that have to do with Chemistry or Physics. It's their job to break things down and figure out how stuff works...and the inner workings of the universe happen to not be of high priority.
People who do follow religion because it gives them something to believe in. If you take the idea of Christians, they believe in Jesus because no matter how much of a sinner you are, if you truly have faith, he will sacrifice himself so that you can be clean again and give you love unconditionally. The idea of that someone always looking out for you and will accept you no matter what is a thing most people need.
