This begs the question if buttermilk or baking soda biscuits are better.Just to eat a biscuit or as bread with a meal, it's buttermilk all the way. But baking soda biscuits are good with stewish food on top of them, better than buttermilk in this application. Of course, what kind of biscuit you like is generally regional. The further north you get the more it's focused on baking soda biscuits. Buttermilk was to valuable on the market to eat yourself, so you don't make biscuits with it. In short, quickbreads rock.
