The long answer is: War reflects the motives of the politics behind it. It can be motivated by fear and greed. It can also be motivated by every other human emotion, just as politics are motivated by every human emotion.
The game "Timeshift" and the Red Faction games have fully-interactive scenery and it doesn't make up for a poor gameplay experience.
An IFV is a tank, a ITV is a tank, a howitzer is a tank. If they can mistake a Bradley for a tank, maybe they can mistake a pile of brush or a waffle box for a tank.
