This guy in his early 30s with a sad face, an arm in a sling, with a missing leg...strapped to his horse in the rain...that may appear to be a sympathetic image.
Until you consider that Hood thought he was the greatest general in the Confederacy, he thought he was unbeatable, he thought he was a legend, he connived against his peers and superiors to achieve levels of command he was never fit for, and he came as close to murdering his own soldiers as you get.
