Religion is often used as an excuse for political actions.
The Crusades are often credited as being religious in nature--but in reality they were the result of political disputes between Rome and Constantinople. And eventually half the known world because engaged in warfare in territory which belonged to neither Rome nor Constantinople.
But not every language distinguishes between male and female forms of words.
For instance, modern English doesn't distinguish gender through noun inflection like most other language. And therefore we don't require gender agreement within sentences. Our only gender markers are articles--"He", "She", "It".
