The school district here introduced this general style of exams two years after I graduated. And the quality of graduates has dropped; they can't figure out why. Probably because now teachers (who in America are almost universally people who just barely graduated college and their terrible transcripts prevent them from doing anything else) focus so much on what the exams ask that they don't teach anything else. And their union won't let them get fired for being ****ty teachers. Hooray for unions!
Another thing that works in Europe but doesn't work, and will never work, in the US due to our extreme level of government corruption.
