I reckon its mostly (note the word mostly doesnt mean always) because of age and immaturity. Someone who's is old enough and joins up new has none of that mentality as they are mature enough to know that the moderators are people too, and generally friendly 
They're there for the benefit of everyone.
Much like the police "to protect and to serve" for example.
But then you get the young ones who think "oh crap, they got power" and then let their imaginations run wild on what they would do with the power then imagine that thats what the moderators will do to them in an instant.

Never heard of Greenday huh? @Agiledog & Jane: At least seven of them are NZ bands so I dont expect you to know them. Some of the songs are quite old, and others just not very popular with today's radio stations. They're all good anyway
