Hardware support is probably the main plus and the number of concurrent channels, in terms of quality of sound on board is pretty much even.

I was thinking about a Xonar, but to be honest the on board chips are getting better every year.Crucial will soon have to revert to selling the chips to motherboard manufacturers in bulk before Realtek etc take them over.

Did you even read the thread to start with.And there is boards that support it, It is overkill yes, but I have 3 working in perfect tandem at full 16 speed at 16gb/s bandwith. It does work, and it works fine. Also take your 4chan attitude elsewhere.

You can SLI 4 690s, there is some boards that will allow it, a handful offer all 4 at x16 also.So its not BS herpderp. I also never said I had 4, I do have 3 though with a 660 dedicated for Physx and CUDA stuff, thats on my dual xeon board though for development work.

Could be you have set sound quality in games too high, some on board sound chips don't have the support to work with a lot of channels at once.
