WALKTHROUGH - CITY OF MARATHON

CLIFFS OF MARATHON

You should have enough by now to upgrade your Blades of Chaos to level 2, go ahead and do so.

Open the --UNMARKED CHEST (PHOENIX FEATHER [4/19])-- to the left side of the screen after the FMV. View Screenshot Run to the right then slide down the rough wall (press down and tap X then hold down to slide). Open the --RED CHEST-- to the side after sliding to the bottom. Run to the left then climb up on the next rough wall. Move to the left while on the wall then slide down once again.

The distant sounds of people will be noticeable upon reaching the bottom. Find the --SAVE PILLAR-- beside the building below then save your game! Run up the steps beside the save pillar then attack the planks that block the doorway. View Screenshot A cutscene will play on the other side of the doorway and an undead soldier will
attack.

New Enemy: Undead Soldier

These enemies fall to basic attacks much like Persian soldiers but they are much more aggressive. View Screenshot Be sure to block as they dash toward Kratos with their blades stretched out since they will perform a slash combo afterwards. Before each attack, their blades will always glow. They can be defeated with Square attacks or jumping Triangle attacks rather easily. Use Plumes of Prometheus for groups of these enemies.

Defeat the undead soldier and break all the objects around the room then move through the next doorway. Destroy the wooden planks against the far wall to reveal a hidden room View Screenshot with a --RED CHEST-- and an --UNMARKED CHEST-- inside. Run down the stairs to the left side of the room to exit the building. View Screenshot

There are plenty of objects lying around the outside area that may be broken (boards, pots, etc.) so break them for some extra red orbs. While moving ahead a few undead soldiers will attack. Use Square attacks and jumping Triangle attacks to defeat them and be sure to block or roll when they run toward Kratos with their blades outstretched. Use Plumes of Prometheus to attack the whole crowd but watch for their attacks while doing so.

A --GREEN CHEST-- will be off to the right further down the street. More undead soldiers will appear eventually. Run past the undead soldiers then defeat the undead archers in the back of them by grabbing them. To the left of the archers is a --BLUE CHEST--. Up ahead a person will yell that "The fog is alive" and a cutscene will play once Kratos moves further ahead.

Run toward the burning crate next to the fog up ahead. View Screenshot Hold down on the Circle button to grab the crate then move it through the fog up ahead. The light from the fire will protect Kratos from the fog around this area. The fog will damage Kratos if he tries to journey out into it. Let go of the crate once the gate is reached then lift the gate open and step under it. View Screenshot

Before going too far, look to the left side of the gate to spot an --UNMARKED CHEST (GORGON EYE [4/21])--. Don't worry about the torch in the statue's hand up the stairs just yet - Kratos must finish off the enemies down the road first. There is a --BLUE/GREEN CHEST-- up ahead. An siren will slither from around a corner up ahead - these actually spawn in that foggy area in the back.

New Enemy: Undead Gorgon

These enemies will not use stone gazes, instead they will scream to stagger Kratos' then attack him while he is stunned. View Screenshot Tap the L and R buttons to recover from their yell. Block their tail attacks and roll away every time they lean their head back to yell. These gorgons can be taken down with normal Square attacks so long as you roll away from their yells. The shockwave from the yell cannot be blocked. A Plume of Prometheus will knock them out of an attack but watch for their tail attack while performing it.

Defeat the first siren then quickly run over to the crank across from the foggy area where it spawned and rotate the crank to shut the gate of the foggy area. View Screenshot One more will most likely spawn while Kratos turns the crank, but hurry and shut the gate and you won't have to deal with as many gorgons.

Move further on down the road ahead to find some undead archers. Work your way toward the archers while blocking their arrows then grab all of them to defeat them quickly. Before making it to the undead archers, a --RED CHEST-- will sit to the right.

Notice the wagon around the fog at the end of the street behind where the archers were. Backtrack to the building with the statue holding a torch then grab the torch off of the statue. View Screenshot Carry the torch back to the wagon - Kratos cannot attack while carrying the torch so all enemies must be defeated. Press the O button near the wagon while Kratos holds the torch and he will toss it into the wagon, igniting the grass inside. View Screenshot

Hold the O button and push the wagon through the fog. The camera will eventually turn to the left to show an archer through the fog. View Screenshot Stop pushing the wagon when the archer is in view then move through the fog and grab him. Open the --RED CHEST-- and other --RED CHEST-- in the area where he was. Run back to the burning wagon and continue pushing it through the fog. When the camera angle turns to the right View Screenshot and the next archer appears run through the fog and grab the archer to defeat him then open the --BLUE/GREEN CHEST-- and the -- UNMARKED CHEST (PHOENIX FEATHER [5/19])--.

Step back through the fog and continue to push the burning wagon all the way to the end of the fog. Kratos will automatically let go when you reach the end. Run ahead and a cutscene will trigger then a new enemy will attack. View Screenshot

New Enemy: Undead Tiger/Tiger

These saber tooth tigers will attack with either a slap attack from their paw or flame attack from up close. From a distance, they will lunge at Kratos. Fight them from up close and attack it with Plumes of Prometheus or use jumping Triangle attacks. The Efreet's Demon Fury works very well when it tries to perform an attack since it will shield Kratos and knock the tiger out of its current attack.

An Undead Tiger will appear up ahead as the exits seal off. Stay right next to this enemy so it won't perform its jumping attack. Hit it with Plumes of Prometheus or jumping Triangle attacks. Its claw attack from its paw can be blocked but roll away from its blue fire breath since it cannot be blocked. Kratos can also use The Efreet's Demon Fury during its fire breath to avoid damage and hit the tiger in the process. Be sure to take breaks in between each Plume to prepare for its next attack. Grab it when the Circle button icon appears to trigger an action cutscene to finish it off. View Screenshot

Run over to the rock wall on the right side and attack it to break it after the battle. View Screenshot Defeat the archers down the path ahead then open the --GREEN CHEST-- if needed and open the --RED CHEST-- on the left. Hop on the raised portion of the building then climb the rough wall. View Screenshot

THE STEED SHRINE

Save your game at the --SAVE PILLAR-- at the top. View Screenshot The handles and glowing center objects are of no use to Kratos at the moment. Certain mechanisms inside of the temple up ahead must be activated for these to be of use. Run across the bridge to the side.
