By and large a fairly solid list, though I can't help but feel the "end of the year GotY" effect is in place - that is, games released near the end of the year are more relevant at the time of the editorial, and thus win. I mean, the list doesn't have any mention of The Witcher 2, Crysis 2, (though I myself would slip that in the disappointing category) Catherine, Shadows of the Damned, etc etc.Personally, I'd have to put Dark Souls at GotY, 360, PS3, Best Visuals, and Best Sound Design. The environment telling stories all its own while simultaneously looking beautiful is a feat in itself, but then you realize that that giant bridge you saw off in the background previously is the bridge you're standing on. Giant fortress? Going there. Pretty much nothing in the environment is left unused, that is - if you can see it off in the distance, you will go there. Sound design is pretty minimalist for the most part, but is done quite well (voices especially, many are... unhinged, to say the least) and really ups the tension whilst also giving information (that you may or may not understand until after you die to whatever it is you hear) - both good things in their own ways in a game where everything is trying to kill you. Won't get too wordy on why gameplay seals the deal: it's Nintendo Hard, and teaches you by killing you - and does not forgive any lapses in awareness. Very deep character/equipment customization, and a one-of-a-kind online component that allows you to summon co-op partners, but also allows enemy players to invade - a faction system is based entirely around this. Overall, I personally put it at the top of the previously mentioned categories because, above all, it's the most demanding game I've ever played - which ultimately results in the most rewarding game I've ever played. If anyone is wondering, I did buy a copy on both consoles and have played both, albeit because Best Buy messed up my order and I needed a limited edition.
